Running Our Race

Finally we have sat down long enough to post! Whew! The past month has been a whirlwind for both Brett and I but I am going to attempt to catch everybody up. May ended so quickly for us. We were frantically trying to finish up things at the house which is a big chore! My last day at the VA Hospital in Birmingham was May 28 th . It was bittersweet for me, but overall exciting because that meant Brett and I were on to our next adventure. I spent the first week of June packing up the house. Such a hassle....but we got it all done. That week we drove back and forth to the house meeting contractors and basically just writing a ton of checks!! :) On one of those trips...Sadie (our furry 4 th child) was playing in the front yard (workman had left the front door open)....when she GOT HIT BY A CAR!!! It was so awful! All the kids were there to see it and she got hit hard!!! I immediately took off in a sprint to her in full adrenaline mode. She was just howling/crying on the side of...

We decided that since this was the last weekend before school was out and in the midst of the kids "birthday celebrations", that a relaxing weekend was in order!!  We drove down to Point Clear, Alabama and stayed at the Grand Hotel...it was perfect.  With all the work on the house we have done lately, a weekend of R & R was just what we needed. We got there Friday night just in time for a perfect sunset!  We didn't even leave the resort the entire weekend.  They had several great restaurants and so much fun stuff to do.... Here we are at breakfast the next morning.  They had the BEST breakfast buffet...so many choices.. Kate and I were fans of the waffle bar....notice mine is half gone! They next day we pretty much camped out at the pool..it was huge!!! poolside baby!!!!... They had a great restaurant poolside so we could just stay in our bathing suits!  We are doing the famous "kate pose"!!  ...

This past weekend (May 7th) Kate turned 8!!!!!  We helped throw a birthday party for her on Saturday.  I meant to post about this on Sunday night....but, well....the week has gotten away from me so here I am on Wednesday...oh well! She had her birthday party at the Opelika SportsPlex.  They recently opened this great "splash park" along side their pool.  It was so much fun!!!  Kate and all of her friends were so cute!!! Here is the Birthday Girl....the party was themed "beachy/tropical".  She had about 10 friends plus some family there.  The weather turned out great.  We held everything outside and just set up right by the pool that way the kids could swim pop up for some snacks easy.  Kate's mom, Amy, got a great cake with a palm tree on it. Here is the "kid crew".  Fun!Fun! Emma Grace...very shy around the camera....yeah right!!!  She loves the camera and the camera loves her!! Christopher...

This weekend we were with the kids in Opelika.  I was on call at the VA Hospital in Birmingham on Friday night so Brett had to head down there by himself.  I came down early Saturday morning.  Because our house is still a DUST BOWL and more importantly we don't have the new AC unit turned on yet, we opted for a hotel this weekend....we found a pretty good deal at the Holiday Inn Express that is brand new.  It was actually fairly nice....we got a room that had a king bed, pull out couch and we added a roll-away bed to the mix.....and voila! --- all 5 Scullens in one room!!!  So cozy!  The hotel had a salt water pool and hot tub so we hit that on Saturday.  That night we met one of Brett's best friend's and his great family out for dinner... Meet the Walters....Jay, Angie and their kids Jake and Maginnis (on the left).  We went out for our favorite...mexican! Afterwards they had us back to their house for fresh baked cookies and ice cream. ...
