FINALLY!!!!!!!

Finally we have sat down long enough to post! Whew! The past month has been a whirlwind for both Brett and I but I am going to attempt to catch everybody up.

May ended so quickly for us. We were frantically trying to finish up things at the house which is a big chore! My last day at the VA Hospital in Birmingham was May 28th. It was bittersweet for me, but overall exciting because that meant Brett and I were on to our next adventure. I spent the first week of June packing up the house. Such a hassle....but we got it all done.
That week we drove back and forth to the house meeting contractors and basically just writing a ton of checks!! :) On one of those trips...Sadie (our furry 4th child) was playing in the front yard (workman had left the front door open)....when she GOT HIT BY A CAR!!! It was so awful! All the kids were there to see it and she got hit hard!!! I immediately took off in a sprint to her in full adrenaline mode. She was just howling/crying on the side of the road obviously going into shock. I couldn't tell where she had been hit but blood was pouring out of her mouth. Emma Grace ran to get her dad and I ...somehow?...scooped Sadie up and ran her back across the street toward the house. Brett had the keys and we all jumped in the car. I sat in the back holding Sadie on my lap. Looking back we were so proud of the kids...They immediately pulled it together and worked as a team to get us to the doggie hospital. Christopher even jumped in through the back door of the suburban because "that was the fastest way in" he told us later! They did great even though we were all so scared. Brett drove like a madman with his flashers on and his horn honking. I think he drove in the turn lane the entire way there. We are definitely blessed in that we have some great vets in the area (Auburn has a really good vet school) and one of the best works at a "full on" animal hospital that is only a few miles from our house. They took us in the back way into their "ER". The vets got an IV going on her quickly and gave her a couple of meds to help with the pain and her shock. The vet, Jere Colley, sat all the kids down after a few minutes and talked to them. Everyone in the room had tears flowing. He was so sweet and kind to them and told them honestly we were not sure if Sadie would make it, but with prayers and some good care here she had a chance. For the next 24hrs, Sadie was 50/50 as Dr. Colley would say. She had some internal bleeding in her lungs and required a "doggie blood" transfusion. Miraculously, the only orthopedic injury was a broken right elbow. Sadie finally turned the corner after a couple of days and Dr. Colley could see that with some time and a big surgery she could get better!!! Overall, that week was so rough for Brett and I. Sadie had become a big part of the Scullen Family and we just couldn't imagine it without her. She had elbow surgery on Thursday June 3rd which went great. She is now 3 weeks post op and is slowly getting her strength back. We have to keep her crated for a total of 6 weeks and on leash when in the backyard to potty. She just can't risk running or jumping on that elbow. The surgeon (who is the best in the area) that we got to do the surgery said it was one of the most complicated elbow surgeries that he has ever done!!! Whew!......

Here she was coming home from the hospital with her "cone of shame"

Here is her elbow post operation...poor baby!

The second week in June was really fun, but also crazy that we even attempted to try and do it all. For months we have had a small vacation planned down to Destin, FL to stay with our best friend, Stan, and his entire family (they are our Opelika mom and dad!!) Brett has gone with them for years as their adopted son and now we could both go as husband and wife!! yay! I stayed down there until Wednesday, hopped on a plane, and landed in Texas to head out on our annual mother/daughter trip...not sure what number trip it was this year....maybe 28th?? Needless to say.....it was so relaxing and wonderful. Catching up with my 5 best friends and our moms is my idea of a perfect weekend.

Brett drove back from Florida on Friday (while I was off still on vacay!!) and proceeded to move our entire packed house without me there to help him. I told him he deserved Husband of the Year!!! When I got back I had the lovely job of unpacking this house! It was actually really fun but is still a work in progress. Here are some pics:

The kids went to camp June 1-12 at Camp Mac in Alabama. They had SO MUCH FUN!!! It was all 3 kids and all of their first times away from home for that long. We were so proud of them and so happy they had a blast. I think summer camp is the best and can't wait for them to go next year!

This past week Brett had some business in Atlanta so I went with him. It was so much fun! During the day, I explored Atlanta (great shopping!!!) while he was tied up. One of the nights we went out to eat at this fun restaurant called, Two Urban Licks. We celebrated our ONE YEAR anniversary. Yay!!! It has just flown by. Our actual anniversary was on Friday, June 25th, but we celebrated a few days early.

On Friday, June 25th, a great couple friend of ours from Birmingham came down and stayed with us...first house guests...they wanted us to come with them to a party they had been invited to. We all went and heard this band played, the Muse, at the "Feed and Seed" in Loachapoka. Hows that for a mouthful? The Feed and Seed is this totally quirky music venue which is BYOB. This crazy old man owns it and makes you wear a tie from his stock to come in. Which is crazy...because it is this old building, full of "character",...not quite a tie wearing place. But-we had a blast!!!!

This weekend we have spent cleaning up around the house and trying to cross some "to-do's" off our realllllly looooooong list.

Okay--now I promise to not let that much time pass again.....

We are just so happy to be in Opelika with the kids!
