Running, Singing, and a lot of Relaxing

This weekend was perfect.  Do you ever have those?....because I feel like the Scullen family was long overdue.  I cannot believe it is April...and I guess it did sneak up on me because we have been crazy busy!!!
You see...Brett and I function well under pressure and love always having "projects"...sometimes we regret them...but mostly the second we complete one, we line up the next.  So...don't feel sorry for us when I say "how busy we are"...we bring on most of it ourselves...and don't tell anybody, but secretly we love it.  This is sounding like "Confession Tuesday".  Ha!  Anyways...Uncharacteristically Brett and I took this weekend, stopped all the madness, and decided to be just "present with the kids"!  Second confession...we loved that more!  I think God is working to patiently show us balance in our life.  I am listening.

Gina and Bob (hubs 'rents) drove down from Tennessee to spend time with us.  Who are we kidding...to see the grand kids of course!  Saturday morning EG ran in the "Unity Run" with one of her favorite teachers (and ours too!) Mrs. Garner.  They wore matching outfits natch.  This run was sponsered by her middle school and the partners were "tethered" to promote unity by about a 3 foot length of cord.  Cool.  It was a stormy start to the day and we were unsure if it was even going to happen, but a slowing of the rain...and they are off!

I was supposed to complete a 20 mile run that morning in preparation for my marathon on April 28th.  About 5 miles in and at 4:45 in the morning, I could tell the storm had moved in, the humidity was about 300%, and I said "uncle".   You don't even have to think it.  I am nuts.  I decided to make this past weekend a recovery weekend and then complete the run next weekend.  It was Godly timing with our theme of the weekend.  After her run, we rushed home, showered and went back to the same park for the yearly "garden in the park" festival.  EG's middle school choir sang directed by none other than Mrs. Garner.  She is wonder - woman and teacher of the year all wrapped up into one.  She is a great, positive role model for all the kids especially the girls.  We love her!

That afternoon after the rain passed, we enjoyed the wonderful spring weather.  We played in a new mister that we picked up at Home Depot,

Did some dancing to music of course,

Got all messy, and just loved being in the moment.

Ummm...who is the baby here?
Sunday, Brett's parents went back home and we spent all day outside.  Lots of bike riding....

Kate and EG soaking up some sun.  Check out the diva, EG, with her own personal mister to cool her off.
Christopher and his great friend, Cal.  They hit the baseball for hours.  And loved every minute.

Kate, the fish of the family, moved the sprinkler to the front yard.

And, of course, convinced Dad to find some plastic for a make-shift slip and slide...tons o fun.  And did I mention Caroline took over a THREE hour nap.  We are blessed.  Attaway girlfriend!

While she was sleeping I got some spring pots ready for the front porch.  I love anything bright green!  Faith (aka Martha Stewart) made me this super cool cross for my front door.  She sewed it from burlap.  I mean...seriously...she is super talented and needs to decorate professionally. How cute is that?!?

Martha's Family (Faith, Jeremy, and Claire...ha!) came over and grilled out with us on Sunday night.  We played a bunch of music, ate some great grilled chicken, got major baseball hitting pointers from Christopher and learned all the new "middle school dance moves".  Do you know how to "Cupid Shuffle"...well we do...kind of...actually not at all!

The guys just watching the action.  They were afraid the girls would win the dance off!  Ha!
Here are some great pictures Kate took.  I just can't get enough of Sweet Caroline!

Those blue eyes!

This is right before Caroline's classic smirky smile.  So Scullen.

Me and my girl

She is super ticklish

Jake is summing up our weekend for us.  Pure bliss!!!
